I will hold my hands up now and say I watched all the episodes of Chasing the Saturdays (in about two days). It was highly entertaining, but the main reason was to lust over all the girls' perfect makeup. They looked glam all. the. time. Molly, just as the other girls did, often wore a smokey eye, lots of eyeliner and a red lip, and always looked great doing it. However, I have to say I quite liked the new look I saw her sporting this week. She had such minimal makeup on, not even blush or bronzer, but pulled it off so well. This got me inspired to see if minimal makeup, in particular wearing nothing on the cheeks was something I felt comfortable doing. Even on days where I wear very little makeup, I never forget to dust something onto my cheeks, but I was up for the challenge!
Although Molly's complexion is glowing, there is still a matte quality to her skin so I began with Revlon Colorstay Foundation for Combination/Oily Skin in Buff buffed over my skin to give a similar matte effect. The one part of the makeup that wasn't minimal was the brows, so I filled mine in with H&M's Brow Pencil in Blonde, but took time to make them a little more bold than I normally would. I curled my lashes and then added No.7 Extreme Length Waterproof Mascara for natural fluttery lashes. To add a little glow back into the skin I dusted Topshop Highlighter in Crescent Moon to the high points of my face and my cupids bow, as Molly looks like she has the same done. Then came the lips, annoyingly mine are showing much darker in the above photo than they looked in real life. I mixed Rimmel's Lasting Finish by Kate Moss lipsticks in 113 and 101 together to create a neutral pale pink. The matte effect of the lipstick added the minimal look, making it just look like a bare lip. Finally I tied my hair in a messy, low ponytail to complete the look.
I'm quite happy with how this look turned out actually, and with the exception of highlighter, I didn't actually mind not wearing anything on my cheeks. Natural, minimal complexions like this have been seen all over the runways and I think this might be a catwalk trend I can deal with.
What do you think of minimal makeup? Could you imagine skipping blusher/bronzer?
